Kwak's Taekwondo Academy entered 8 players into the Taekwondo NSW State Championships and National Selections - and returned with an impressive 5 Gold medals and 4 Silver medals.

Danielle was simply outstanding taking Gold in Open Black Belt Females - dominating both her opponents with an exciting and calculated display.

Renee fought to her usual high standard and took Gold in the 14-15 Years Black Belts. Yet another great result for her.

Jade fought in two divisions winning them both, earning 2 Gold medals for herself and the club. A classy performance on the back of hard and consistent training.

Anthony had 3 very interesting a different competitors, taking Silver in the Open Black Belt Male Division. Anthony's physical and mental development has been bolistic in the last 6 months and his performance reflected his hard work in training.

Nicole, Stephen and Chad each won Silver medals. This was Nicole's first State Competition, and showed great fighting spirit. Nicole also entered the patterns competition and won Gold there too. The judges commented on her ability and encouraged her to continute with her training.

Dylan entered a large and competitive division in his first competition at State level. He scored some excellent points and should be proud of his performance.

Matt would like to thank club members who assisted with the running of the competition. It was the largest NSW competition ever held, and a lot of positive feedback has come back from State and National Taekwondo Executive Members. Great job guys!

2010 State Championships Review PDF Print

Kwak's Taekwondo Academy have sent a well prepared team of 8 to the Taekwondo NSW State Championships.

We put two athletes into Open Black Belt competition, returning with two Gold medals and a Silver - great stuff.
Danielle overpowered two opponents in separate divisions taking two Gold medals.
Anthony made the final with a classy win, and lost the final to an opponent of international standard. Anthony held his own in his match and will draw on this excellent experience to further his development.

Renee Steele won Gold, powering her way through 3 matches in style.
Stephen took Gold in his division, composure and even temperament being key aspects of his match play.

Corey and Dylan both won Silver medals and fought to a high standard.
Chad put in an excellent performance in his first match and lost narrowly to the eventual Gold medalist.

Jade showed outstanding grit and determination taking Silver. The final was a bruising encounter with Jade missing out on a disappointing Golden point decision. As Coach Matt has emphasised, grace and sportsmanship are required in all circumstances. Jade thoroughly enjoyed her match and accepted the result without complaint - full credit to her.

Thanks go to all the club members who came out to assist with running the competition.

Australia Day 2010 PDF Print

Kwak's Taekwondo Academy have entertained hundreds, performing two Taekwondo demonstrations at the Miranda Park Australia Day fair.

Many thanks go to all students who worked hard to prepare - the degree of 'polish' and overall athleticism was outstanding - which can only be achieved with consistent and dedicated preparation.

For those who enjoyed the demonstration and are interested in Taekwondo, by all means take a look around the site. For session times, click 'Training Schedule' above. Remember - first session is free - so why not try Taekwondo to see if it is right for you or your child.

NSW State Comp - Dec 2009 PDF Print

Kwak's Taekwondo entered a small yet well prepared and competent team into the Taekwondo NSW Open State Championships in December.

Congratulations to Rene, Corey, Joshua and Stephen who won gold.

A special mention goes to Jade who put in an excellent effort in her first competition, landing 3 spectacular axe kicks in the female yellow belts. Everyone agreed that both girls in that game fought at a level above what is usually seen in yellow belt competition.

Coaches Matt and Grant both commented on the excellent quality of players that our club is producing. Well done everyone.

Matt would also like to thank all club members who volunteered their time (esp with an early start!) to make the competition a successful one.

Black Belt Grading PDF Print
On Saturday 5th December, seven of our club members progressed in their black belt rankings. Achievements were as follows:

Matt        6th Dan
Alex        6th Dan
Andrew   5th Dan
Grant      4th Dan
Justin      2nd Dan
Perry       2nd Dan
Dennis    1st Dan

It was an action-packed afternoon consisting of three components: Patterns (Poomse), Sparring (Kyorugi), and Breaking (Kyupka).

Some nerves emerged early on, but were quickly dealt with and all showed great concentration and Taekwondo spirit throughout the grading.

Sparring saw some brilliant match-ups with many moments of greatness and technical skill, not only from the higher belts. Dennis landed a short and sharp back kick early on, and Justin snuck in some excellent counter attacks. Alex and Grant went two rounds in a battle of endurance, while Matt and Andrew gave an exciting display of top quality exchanges.

Power breaking highlights:
- Matt's textbook 360° lander;
- Andrew's knife hand through six boards at first attempt;
- Alex's barrage of hand techniques through tiles and boards, including ridge hand and spear hand;
- Perry, Dennis and Justin's stationary arm and feet techniques: a very impressive effort especially considering age and experience.

Thank you to everyone who came to help out and show their support. Special thanks to the members of the Oak Flats division of the club who made the drive up to be there and assist.

All in all an epic show and an excellent and well-deserved achievement. The perseverance and resolution of those involved is to be highly commended, and is an inspiration to others. Well done!
